It has long been rumored that DVR functionality would one day come to the Xbox One and Microsoft confirmed that about a week back at Gamescom, Xbox One DVR feature is on track for a 2016 release. The company has already provided some details about this feature and now it has also confirmed that the feature will only be available in a handful of markets initially. Xbox One users can watch live TV currently but they don’t have the ability to record free-to-play live TV, this feature comes next year.

A Microsoft representative tells VG247 that Xbox One DVR feature will initially only be available in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom in 2016. The representative added that support for other regions like France and Germany will be added but at a later date.

With DVR functionality users will be able to record live free-to-play TV but they won’t be able to save recordings on the internal hard drive, Microsoft has already confirmed that those who want to record shows have to use an external hard drive for this purpose, Microsoft teamed up with Seagate to produce an external hard drive that kind of looks like a mini-Xbox.

So far Microsoft has not said precisely when this feature will arrive in 2016 but at least now we have an idea of when to expect its arrival.
