If you can understand the data that can be obtained through a car’s OBD-II port you can do a lot to make sure that your car remains safe, reliable and offers great fuel efficiency. Professional tools for this purpose can cost quite a bit and require some training but products like VOYO aim to make that much easier for the average user. VOYO is an aftermarket connected car system which focuses on safety, convenience and fuel efficiency. It connects into the car’s OBD-II, any car after 1996 has one, and translate all of that data to provider greater insight to users.

It adds a variety of smart features to the car such as Autokey to automatically lock and unlock car doors based on the paired phone’s location. The immobilization feature requires the cellphone to be in the car during certain time periods set by the user, it even allows for multiple vehicle tracking on a single screen where it displays engine status, location, and other alerts.

VOYO relies upon crowdsourced data to detect and report on dangerous driving conditions, “similar to Waze but without the potential driver distraction” is how the company puts it. Since it plugs into the OBD-II port it can also read error codes from the car’s computers thus providing users with detailed information about errors even before the check engine light comes up on the dash.

It’s also said to be the world’s first aftermarket plug and play Start/Stop system which lets the driver turn the engine of a stopped vehicle on and off with just the footbrake.

VOYO is a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter, pledging $90 right now will get you one VOYO controller, shipments are expected to begin by February 2016. The project aims to raise $50,000 and it has already raised over $23,000 within just one day of going live.
