Gear-S2-watch_lifestyle__01There are several smartwatches that are compatible with the iPhone right now, but safe to say that there are plenty of devices out there that aren’t, but things are certainly changing. For example Google made Android Wear devices compatible with iOS, and now it looks like Samsung wants its Tizen smartwatches to be compatible as well.

Announcing on stage at CES 2016, Samsung’s VP Alanna Cotton revealed that the Samsung Gear S2 will be getting iPhone compatibility later this year. No specific date on when this will happen, so we guess we’ll just have to keep an eye out for it. There was also no mention as to whether or not Samsung will have to sacrifice certain features.

However given that certain features had to be sacrificed when it came to Android Wear for iOS, there is a good chance that not all of the Gear S2’s features will be carried over. Whether or not this will result in a hobbled experience remains to be seen, but hopefully for the most part it should not affect the user experience too greatly.

In any case we’ll keep an eye out for the Gear S2’s compatibility update for the iPhone, so do check back with us at a later date for more details.
