Headphones are great, but if there is a downside to using headphones is that it blocks off your surrounding environment. This means that if you were to cross the street wearing headphones, you might not hear cars horning at you, which can be dangerous. Apparently the danger of headphones was enough for a team in Taiwan to create the Music Wrap.

As you can see in the video above, Music Wrap is not your traditional pair of headphones. They aren’t worn on your head, but rather they are worn around your neck. The device has a pair of directional speakers that points the music directly at you, thus allowing you to immerse yourself in music, but at the same time maintaining situational awareness.

Its creators are also claiming that Music Wrap does not damage your ears since the music or audio isn’t blasting directly into your ear canal. To top things off, the Music Wrap is weather proof, meaning that you can take it with you when you’re out on a run, or use in while hiking, and whatever rain or sweat should not damage the device.

The device is also bendable, meaning that instead of wrapping it around your neck, you will be able to use it to double up as a kickstand for your smartphone, or a pair of speakers for your desktop. It’s an interesting idea and it is currently on Kickstarter where it is trying to raise funds to make it a reality, so head on over for the details.
