gear-s3-lonely-planetWe’re sure that for the most part, smartwatches weren’t designed with the intention of merely being an extension of our smartphones to receive email alerts and message notifications. Leading up to the launch of the Apple Watch, many were speculating that the device could be some kind of health/medical marvel.

That being said while that has yet to happen, Samsung has announced that they will be partnering up with Lonely Planet (publisher of travel guides and books) to bring exclusive watchfaces to its Gear S3 smartwatch, along with the Lonely Planet’s travel app and guides, all of which will be accessible on the smartwatch.

This means that while you’re on the go, you’ll be able to access various guides and features from the comfort of your wrist and not have to dig your phone out of your bag or pockets all the time. “The smartwatch app will offer travelers access to Lonely Planet’s award-winning content spanning over 50 cities around the world. It will not only list the top places that are relevant to the user’s location, but it will also enable users to bookmark or route directions to destinations of interest.”

The watchfaces will also come in handy for users who want to know some brief information about certain locations. It will come with the weather information and a world clock. If you’re an avid traveller, it sounds like maybe the Gear S3 could be an ideal companion. The guides are expected to be made available this month.
