Last time when cars were sold, they would come with a radio built into them and that was it. In the past customers would have to pay more to add a CD player, but these days a CD player is almost a given, but it looks like music streaming could be the way to go. So much so that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Volkswagen have partnered up with Apple for a free 6-month Apple Music trial for new customers.

Starting with FCA, this deal is expected to go live on the 1st of May, 2018 and will be applicable to Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and FIAT models that have CarPlay installed. This deal will be running until the 30th of April, 2019, which means that customers have a year to choose when they want to start their trial.

Volkswagen is expected to launch a similar trial in Europe starting this May. No start date was provided but customers can expect a May timeframe. However unlike FCA’s offering, Volkswagen’s Apple Music trial will only be available to Volkswagen-branded cars, not other brands that falls under the company’s umbrella, which includes Audi, Porsche, and so on. Customers who want to take part in the trial will have to register with Car-Net which is Volkswagen’s connected car service.

So what if you’re already subscribed to Apple Music? For those who are subscribed, you will be given three months of Apple Music for free, which makes sense since Apple Music offers users a three month free trial when they sign up for a new account.
