Last year Samsung announced the Galaxy Home. This was Samsung’s attempt at breaking into the smart speaker market, but unfortunately, to date, the device has yet to be launched. It made an appearance at the FCC last year, but we haven’t heard anything about its release, at least until now.

Speaking to CNET at the company’s Unpacked event, the company’s head of mobile business DJ Koh confirmed that the device will be launching by the first half of 2019. Koh does not mention when exactly it will launch so we’ll just have to wait, but given the timeframe, we probably won’t have to wait too long for those details.

That being said, we are curious as to how well the Galaxy Home speaker will do. The market right now is more or less being dominated by the likes of Amazon and Google who have flooded the scene with Echo and Google Home devices. Even Apple’s HomePod speakers don’t seem to be making much of a dent.

Not to mention the general consensus is that Bixby is still lagging behind the competition, which means that the smarts of the speaker could be affected as well. Either way we’ll have to wait and see, but does anyone plan on getting the Galaxy Home when it does eventually launch?
