We’d like to think that video games made into movies or TV series have definitely come a long way from their earlier and more terrible days. A good example would be the Castlevania series on Netflix which was very well-received, which is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise that movie studios are looking to video games for inspiration.

For fans of Valve’s Portal series, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Portal movie is still very much alive and well. The idea for a movie based around Portal was floated by producer JJ Abrams about eight years ago, but given that we haven’t really heard much about the movie since, you wouldn’t be alone if you thought that it was quietly cancelled or shelved.

However, during the press day for the home release of the Super 8 4K Blu-ray, Abrams confirmed that the movie is still alive and that a script is being written. “We actually do have a script that’s being written for the Portal movie now at [Warner Bros.]. We’re really excited about the take and the pitch, so it feels like that thing’s finally on the rails.”

Unfortunately, not much else is known about the movie like who will be directing, who’s actually writing the script, and who will be acting, but assuming things continue to progress, we should have those details in the not-so-distant future.
