A hallmark of Apple’s product announcements in the past was that it would almost always feature Apple’s then head-designer, Jony Ive. Speaking in a soft and calming British accent, these product announcements and ads from Apple have become iconic, and with most things iconic, they are mocked and satirized.

This is something that Google has decided to do by launching a new ad for their brand new Pixel 5a 5G. Using a similar tone and a British accent, Google actually takes a couple of shots at Apple in this ad. Not only do they mock the style of Apple’s ads, but they also dramatize it by creating a 2 minute long video about how the Pixel 5a comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

They go as far as calling the inclusion of the headphone jack “a glorious achievement that draws from our past as it propels us into the future,” and how the feature was “reimagined”, which is a buzzword that Apple (and other companies) like to use.

It is pretty funny, although jabs at the headphone jack are getting old since more than a few Android handset makers have since ditched it, so it’s no longer just an Apple thing. If you have a few minutes to spare, then maybe this ad could be worth watching.
