To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the original iPod, Apple has introduced a fully interactive digital easter egg on its official website. Although the iconic music player was discontinued years ago, this digital tribute allows fans and visitors to experience a functional virtual model directly through their web browsers.

The easter egg can be accessed by navigating to music.apple.com followed by any non-existent URL path, such as the direct link music.apple.com/ipod. Upon loading the standard Page Not Found screen, users are greeted with a rendering of the original iPod design. The interface is fully operational, featuring a working scroll wheel that responds to clicking and dragging, alongside physical buttons that allow users to navigate the device’s software.

The device comes pre-loaded with a selection of tracks from artists who were prominent when Apple first unveiled the iPod on October 23, 2001. Users can interact with the system to play ninety-second audio previews directly within the web interface, offering a nostalgic nod to the hardware that transformed the company and the broader music industry.

While Apple transitioned away from standalone hardware players as iPhone capabilities expanded, the legacy of the iPod continues to resonate with consumers. This temporary or hidden web feature highlights the enduring cultural impact of the device, providing a retrospective look at early digital audio technology. Apple Music remains accessible as a monthly subscription service or via the Apple One bundle for users seeking modern streaming options.
