MacBook AirIf you have been following news about Apple, you’ve probably heard that some of their factories in China were forced to shut down due to the amount of pollution that these factories were producing. One of these factories belonged to Taiwanese manufacturer, Catcher Technology who provides 60% of Apple’s unibody enclosures for the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac all-in-one desktop. Naturally this will affect Apple’s ability to ship out laptops and computers to their customers in the long run, but hopefully that won’t be the case.

It seems that according to reports, Catcher is looking to reopen their factory in November, and will be investing $2-3 million on modifying equipment and manufacturing processes. They are hoping that these changes will be in line with the local government’s regulations, whom if not satisfied with the changes will not allow the plant to reopen. This is said to cause shipments in October to fall by 20% and another 40% in November.

Catcher has also been said to be considering diversifying their operations by bringing some of the production back to its home in Taiwan, where they have recently opened up a production plant in southern Taiwan with plans for further expansion in the same area. Hopefully they will be able to get back on track before Apple’s customers start noticing delays.
