At its Mobile World Congress 2015 event Samsung was expected to unveil a new smartwatch but it didn’t. The company later said that it has decided to hold on to the wearable device until it can be sure that it’s the “perfect” smartwatch. Previous reports suggest that the new smartwatch is referred to as the Orbis and as the name suggests it will have a round design. A new report claims that Samsung is working with a premium watchmarker for the Orbis.

Perhaps Samsung might wait until the Apple Watch is out in the market to respond with the Orbis. Apple Watch will be released on April 24th.

Sammobile hears that Samsung is only testing the Orbis smartwatch in France, South Korea and the United Kingdom. The company usually tests new devices in Germany and Poland.

The scribe suggests that since Orbis is not being tested in these development centers it’s probably because Samsung has teamed up with a popular premium watchmaker like Cartier. The iconic French watchmaker has been cited as an example, it’s not claimed to be the company that Samsung is working with.

Apparently Samsung will work with a proper watchmaker on a premium variant of the Orbis so it just might be more expensive than the normal Orbis units that can be launched at a competitive price point to give the Apple Watch a run for its money.

No word as yet on when Samsung will finally launch this smartwatch.
