We’ve seen Amazon attempt to launch several types of products in the past, and some of them, such as the Kindle Fire tablets, have proven to be successful, while some like the Amazon Fire Phone have fallen flat on their faces. The Amazon Echo is a product that falls into the former category, which is surprising considering that it does come across as rather novel.
Now Google has followed up with its own version called Google Home, and now a report from Bloomberg has revealed that Apple is also pressing ahead with the development of their own Echo-like smart device that will most likely use Siri as its AI of choice. Given that Amazon has Alexa and Google has Google Assistant, Siri is more likely than not Apple’s choice.
The report comes from Mark Gurman who has a very solid reputation with these kinds of rumors, although as he notes in his report, Apple hasn’t finalized their plans yet which means that there is a chance that they could very well scrap it if they don’t think that it is good enough for the market.
Apple’s interest in creating a smart home is hardly a secret, as we have seen from the dedicated Home app launched in iOS 10, and the HomeKit API, so for Apple to create an Echo-like device would make sense, even if it might come across as “copying”. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of Apple launching such a product? Is that something you might be interested in?
