While Miitomo was essentially the first Nintendo game released for mobile, it was Super Mario Run that felt like it was the first “proper” by Nintendo to be released on mobile. Safe to say that excitement surrounding the game was pretty high, but when it was released, there were a few who were disappointed by it.

However it seems despite that, the game has continued being downloaded over the past two years where according to Nintendo’s latest financials, the company is claiming that Super Mario Run has been downloaded nearly 300 million times in the past two years since the game was first released.

According to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, “It has been almost two years since the release of Super Mario Run, but the number of downloads still continues to grow and the application is now installed on nearly 300 million devices around the world. Downloads in countries outside of Japan continue and now account for over 90% of the total.”

This is quite impressive when you consider that it was in 2017 that the game was sitting at 150 million downloads. However despite this, Nintendo had previously admitted that the game isn’t as profitable as they would have liked. The game is free to download where gamers can access limited content, but will have to fork out $10 to unlock everything, which is what put many gamers off in the first place.
