It has been a while since Apple has launched new Beats headphones. They have updated the color options, but to date there is no new model with new features. This could possibly be because Apple might be more interested in getting out a pair of its own branded headphones, at least that’s what the rumors are saying back in 2018.

Now in a new report from Bloomberg, it looks like those headphones could finally be launched later this year, but we might have to wait a while for it. The report talks about Sonos possibly looking to enter the market with a pair of high-end headphones, which would be an interesting direction given that the company typically focuses on speakers.

The report then mentions that should Sonos launch such a device, they would have a number of competitors to look forward to. “Sonos will be competing in a growing but crowded headphone market that includes Bose Corp., Sennheiser, Apple Inc. unit Beats, and Skullcandy Inc. Apple is planning its own over-ear headphones for as early as the second half of this year, people familiar with the plans told Bloomberg in June.”

It is unclear what will happen to the Beats brand should Apple decide to launch their own brand of headphones, but in the meantime Apple is also rumored to be working on the a pair of second-gen AirPods that could be launched soon.
