If there is a reason why digital assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant have a much bigger reach compared to Siri, it is because of companies like Amazon and Google who opened up their digital assistants to third-party developers pretty early on. Apple is slowly doing the same, and according to a report, Apple and Spotify are apparently in talks for deeper Siri integration.

This is according to The Information (paywall) in which they claim that Apple and Spotify are in talks where Siri could allow for deeper Spotify controls using their voice, such as playing songs, playlists, and albums. In addition to Siri integration, it seems that these talks could be changing Spotify’s attitude towards Apple.

Previously, Spotify had accused Apple about preventing them from being used on the HomePod and Siri. However, as the report points out, that language has changed where it sounds a little less accusatory. We’re not sure if the talks between Apple and Spotify will give them special access compared to others, or if the report simply implies that Spotify will be taking advantage of the SiriKit framework that will be introduced in iOS 13.

Either way, if you’re a Spotify user, then iOS 13 could be an update to look forward to if you’re looking to take advantage of Spotify and Siri.
