Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm was the company’s way of taking on popular MOBAs such as Valve’s Dota 2 and Riot’s League of Legends. In fact Blizzard sort of had an advantage in which the characters in Heroes of the Storm are all taken from their various franchises, meaning that players already knew the characters before going into the game.
We reckon that Blizzard has actually done a pretty good job of keeping Overwatch update in terms of content. They have introduced a bunch of new heroes, new maps, and also kept players entertained with seasonal events that are held throughout the year, such as the recent Winter Wonderland event which has just kicked off.
As expected when Blizzard released the World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth expansion, players were quick to complete the initial round of endgame content that Blizzard had initially made available. Also as expected, many players had gripes about the initial release of the game which Blizzard planned to fix in an upcoming patch.
Blizzard loves celebrating the various seasonal holidays that take place throughout the year. We usually see this happen in World of Warcraft, where Blizzard has been known to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Christmas, the Lunar New Year, Halloween, and so on. Blizzard has since brought that tradition over to Overwatch.
It is safe to say that when Blizzard officially announced Diablo Immortal, a mobile version of its action RPG, that they did not anticipate that it would receive the amount of backlash it did. Blizzard has since reassured gamers that they still had multiple Diablo projects in the works, and the good news is that we might learn more about it in 2019.
Blizzard has taken a lot of flak for Diablo Immortal but that’s not going to force it to put other mobile projects on the back burner. A new report suggests that Blizzard is already working on a Warcraft mobile game. The title will reportedly take inspiration from Niantic’s augmented reality hit Pokemon Go.
At the moment Blizzard’s Overwatch has settled into a very nice rhythm, where the game is enjoyed competitively and with Blizzard constantly releasing new heroes and new animated shorts. However is that all that Blizzard has planned for their latest franchise? According to the game’s director, Jeff Kaplan, they have very big dreams for its future.
There have been some who are wondering if Blizzard could eventually make Overwatch a free-to-play game. As it stands, the game requires gamers to actually purchase the game before playing as there is no free trial period or a starter edition like World of Warcraft, but Blizzard did state that that’s what their free weekend events are for.
During BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard introduced a new hero to Overwatch in the form of Ashe who seems to come from the same background as McCree. Ashe is an interesting character as one of her abilities is to summon Bob, her robotic butler, to her side to aid her in battle. For those interested in the character, you’ll be pleased to learn that Ashe is now playable in the game.
The idea of being able to play a game like Diablo on your phone sounds like an excellent idea on paper, but yet following the official announcement of Diablo Immortal, Blizzard was hit with a ton of backlash from fans who felt “cheated” that the company chose to announce a mobile game instead of Diablo 4.
Ahead of BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard published a blog in which they attempted to temper the expectations of fans who had speculated that a Diablo 4 announcement could be part of the event. However a report from Kotaku later suggested that Blizzard apparently had planned Diablo 4 to be announced, but pulled it at the last minute.
Games are usually updated with patches that contain either bug fixes or new features. In some instances these patches can be small and can be downloaded more or less instantly, but sometimes there are patches that are so huge that it takes a while for them to be downloaded and applied to the game.
Blizzard was primarily known as a company who developed games for the PC. However over the years the company has diversified their offerings where games such as Overwatch and Diablo have expanded to consoles. They have also expanded to mobile where titles such as Hearthstone remains incredibly popular, and where Diablo Immortal will be launching as well.
One of the benefits of releasing a game that is free-to-play and available across multiple platforms is that it is a good strategy to try and recruit as many players as possible. Blizzard’s Hearthstone seems to have done just that because according to Blizzard, they have confirmed that the game is now boasting more than 100 million players.
