ipod_shipping_slippedA rumor from last week suggested that this week, or at least soon, we could expect Apple to refresh their iPod lineup. Is that true? We suppose it’s really anyone’s guess, but in the meantime it seems that there is some evidence to point towards the rumor being true in the form of Apple’s own online store.

According to some observations, it has been noted that the iPods listed on Apple’s online store has their shipping time delayed. Previously the shipping estimates listed on Apple’s website had listed the iPods as being in stock, however as you can see from the screenshot above, that has since changed to being listed as 1-3 days before shipping.

This seems to indicate that Apple could be cutting back on replenishing inventory for their iPod lineups which is what most companies would do ahead of a refresh, lest they end up sitting on a bunch of old stock while the new units are being bought up by customers. That being said, it is possible that this could be a momentary lapse in shipping but given the rumors, a refresh does seem to be in the works.

Rumors of a refresh began a couple of weeks ago when iPods in new colors was spotted on iTunes 12.2, hinting that a refresh could be in the making. Last week we heard that while the other iPods were only getting a new coat of paint, the iPod touch could be getting more than that in the form of a new 64-bit SoC. In any case we’ll keep an eye out for more details so check back with us later for more updates.
