Remember when back in the day when Apple launched the Apple Watch for the first time, and they decided that they wanted to get into the luxury watch business by launching a $10,000 Apple Watch Edition made with 18-karat gold? It turns out that the watch was actually a huge flop in terms of sales.

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, it seems that sales of the Apple Watch Edition at the time of launch was in the low tens of thousands, and that sales of the device kind of dropped off after just two weeks. Apple ultimately decided to discontinue the gold Apple Watch, but they still pushed ahead with the “Edition” models with a $1,000 Apple Watch made out of ceramic.

However, it seems that maybe sales of the cheaper model probably wasn’t as good as Apple had hoped because in 2018, with the launch of the Apple Watch Series 4, there was no “Edition” model announced, signalling an end to Apple’s experiment. That being said, despite some missteps along the way and maybe over-anticipating the demand for luxury smartwatches, the Apple Watch has gone to become one of the most popular smartwatches around at the moment.

We have heard all kinds of stories of the Apple Watch and how it has saved the lives of its wearers, thanks to built-in features like a heart rate monitor and ECG monitoring.
