With all the fuss surrounding smart speakers, it did not come as a surprise that Apple tossed their hat into the ring when they launched the HomePod. However, to say that the speaker received a lukewarm reception is overstating it as many were put off by the price and also the seemingly lack of features compared to other smart speakers.
Apple could be trying again because according to a tweet by @L0vetodream, Apple could be announcing the HomePod mini next. For those unfamiliar, there have been rumors suggesting that Apple could actually be working on a smaller and more affordable version of the HomePod called the HomePod mini.
there is no HomePod2 this year

At this time, not much is known about the HomePod mini and how it could differ from the regular HomePod apart from price and size. Companies like Amazon and Google have actually enjoyed a fair bit of success with devices like the Echo Dot and Nest Mini speakers, where they are an affordable way for users to setup a smart home and communicate with them.
We’re not sure how much cheaper the HomePod mini could cost, but Apple is hosting an event for next week where hopefully they’ll have more details to share, so check back with us then for more updates.
