At Google I/O 2021, Google made a rather surprising announcement in which they revealed that they would be working together with Samsung to overhaul Wear OS. The end result is a “new” platform called Google Wear. While Samsung did not confirm anything, it seems that a recent rumor about Samsung moving to Google Wear for their next smartwatch actually makes more sense now.

So where does this leave all of Samsung’s Tizen users? While Samsung did not say if they will stop putting out Tizen smartwatches and wearables in the future, the company did say that they will be committing at least three years of software support for current (and maybe future) devices.

According to Samsung, “At Samsung, we always put customers at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we are committed to bringing them the best possible smartwatch experiences. For customers who already own the Tizen OS based Galaxy smartwatches, we are continuing to provide at least three years of software support after the product launch.”

We’re not sure when Samsung’s next smartwatch will be launched, but as the company is reported to be planning an event for August that will see the launch of their new foldables, perhaps we’ll learn more about the company’s plans then.
